Vladimir Arkad'evich Krasnopol'skij (nastoyaschaya familiya - Krasnopol'skij-Ledov) rodilsya 14 iyunya 1933 goda v Sverdlovske. V 1955 godu on okonchil istoriko-filologicheskij fakul'tet Ural'skogo universiteta, a v 1963 godu - rezhisserskij fakul'tet VGIKa, gde specializirovalsya na dokumental'nom kino na kurse I.Kopalina. V 1961-1963 godah Krasnopol'skij rabotal rezhisserom Sverdlovskoj kinostudii, a s 1964 goda rabotaet na kinostudii "Mosfil'm". Svoj tvorcheskij put' on nachinal v kinodokumentalistike, prichem za redkim isklyucheniem vse rezhisserskie i scenarnye raboty Vladimira Krasnopol'skogo vypolneny sovmestno s Valeriem Uskovym. Ih pervaya igrovaya kartina "Samyj medlennyj poezd" (1963) byla otmechena na Vsesoyuznom kinofestivale v Leningrade (1964) special'nym diplomom zhurnala "Sovetskij e'kran" za luchshij debyut. Zatem vyshli dramaticheskie fil'my "Taezhnyj desant" (1965) i "Nepodsuden" (1969). Bol'shoj zritel'skij interes vyzvala televizionnaya lenta "Teni ischezayut v polden'" (1971). Znachitel'noj tvorcheskoj udachej stal i telefil'm "Vechnyj zov" (1976-1983), do sih por pol'zuyuschijsya lyubov'yu zritelej. V 1979 godu za pervye 12 serij ego sozdateli byli otmecheny Gosudarstvennoj premiej. Vposledstvii Krasnopol'skij i Uskov postavili fil'my "Souchastie v ubijstve" (1986), "Nochnye zabavy" (1991), "Vorovka" (1995). V 1996 godu imi byla snyata istoricheskaya lenta "Ermak", vnov' privlekshaya k sebe interes shirokoj zritel'skoj auditorii. V poslednie gody scenaristsko-rezhisserskij tandem Krasnopol'skij-Uskov s uspehom rabotaet nad sozdaniem teleserialov: "Dve sud'by" (2000), "Syschiki" (2001), "Provincialy" (2003).
