The film "Over the Dark Water" (originally titled "June Rain"), directed by Dmitry Meshiev and released in 1993, is a retrospective cinematic drama that illuminates the lives of three friends and a girl in the 1960s from the perspective of the 1990s.
The plot of the film reveals the internal contradictions of the fathers' generation, examining the idealized yet disappointing aspects of the 1960s. One of the main characters, the Author, reflects on the sixties and their complex relationship with the modern world.
At the center of the story is the Author's narrative about his father Lev, a 1960s idealist whose life is marked by a romance with the mother. Alexander Abdulov artistically and poignantly embodies the character of Lev, whose passions and experiences become the main theme of the film.
The film "Over Dark Waters" received awards at the International Film Festival in Taormina, including the Silver Prize for direction by Dmitry Meshiev and the Golden Prize for the best female role by Ksenia Kachalina. The film also received the "Green Apple - Golden Leaf" award for the best work by the composer, presented to Sergei Kurekhin.
