The film had made a truly indelible impression on the viewers of several generations. The formula for its overwhelming success: a perfect, unhackneyed plot (centered around a negative female character), a fine acting ensemble of all but screen stars, the highest professionalism of the director, Bogoslovsky’s superb music, and the ever stirring theme of “unequal” love.
